Reverend Mark Benson A native of Philadelphia, Mississippi, The Reverend Mark Benson has served congregations in Virginia and Georgia before coming to Gordon Street Christian Church as Senior Pastor in July, 2001.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson College, Anderson, Indiana, where he graduated cum laude with majors in Religion, Biblical studies, and Psychology. In 1988, he received his Masters of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School, where he studied as a Brandon Honor Scholar. In June 1990, he was ordained to ministry at Vine Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nashville, Tennessee.
Reverend Benson has also spent a year in residency as a Clinical Pastoral Education intern in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While there, he received clinical training for ministry in the areas of oncology, surgical intensive care, emergency care, and infectious diseases. Moreover, he has been active in ecumenical efforts, servant leadership initiatives, and community-based ministries with the poor and homeless.

Reverend Benson has traveled to Israel, Italy, Turkey, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and Korea, studying religions ranging from Christianity and Judaism to Buddhism and Hinduism. He has also spent time in Bolivia, South America, on a mission trip.

Mark is married to Ms. LeAnne Malick Benson, and they are the proud parents of two children: Andrew and Emily.
